Dok Gaew is one of our most popular and extremely versatile weaving patterns.
The very subtle patterns are displayed within the solid natural dye colours bringing them to life in a very special way. This particular Coral Pink creation was beautifllu woven by khun Cat, one of our weavers who has had the distinction of having her handmade silk fabric creations purchased for the Thai Royal family.
Our 4 Ply dok Gaew fabrics like Coral Pink are extremely versatile, medium weight, tightly woven fabric that are ideal for casual, special occasion and even bridal outfits. They also make perfect fabric solutions for that mother-of-the bride-dress or bridesmaid outfits.
The colours of this fabric come wild flowers and small insects called “klung” that live in the wood of particular trees and appear after heavy rains. These insect/bettles are cooked for many hours, left to cool and then strained out leaving behind an unusal “burnt” type colour. We then add this solution to Klong soil (soil from under the water of small dams that are scattered around our rice padis). This mixture is boiled for 5/6 hours before adding crushed tapioca seeds, lots of wild flower petals and tamarind to the mix.
This year’s result was the Coral Pink colours you see in this fabric and we are very proud to make it available to you – enjoy the experience.
