Wedding Fabric Silk Weaving Process
In the video you saw Ja Rin Ya, one of our master weavers in action doing what she does best – weaving beautiful handmade Thai silk wedding fabric. Ja, like 4 others in our team, has been taught by the very best of Thailand’s handmade silk weavers and is a real asset to Thai Silk Magic.
On average she will take about 6 days or more than 50 hours to weave this gorgeous handmade Thai silk wedding dress fabric. It’s a slow, extremely skillful but totally satisfying job. She puts all her emotional and traditional efforts into every one of her Thai silk creations.
And that’s just one of many steps in the wedding fabric creation process..

Removing the Woven Thai silk from the Loom
After the spinning, cleaning and the weaving of the wedding dress silk fabric it’s time to start removing it from the loom.
This is a very tricky process that takes lots of expertise, care and time. Dao is training Too-ee, one of our enthusiastic weavers, how to do this important part of the process. They start by cutting the warp threads. These are the tightly stretched lengthwise silk threads that are the very core of the silk fabric.
These threads give the fabric its body and form.
But extreme care must be taken to ensure when it’s cut the tightly woven weave is not lost. That’s why you see Dao tying bunches of threads together after cutting. The next step is to cut the weft or horizontal threads from the loom. Once more this is done with great care.
These threads are sometimes called the filler threads as it fills in the design of the silk itself.
The unique way our weavers interweave these weft and warp threads gives our handmade Thai silk its now famous characteristics of combining durability and softness along with being so easy to take care of.
